What Happens in Your Body During a Massage

A massage activates the parasympathetic system, improves circulation, and releases deep tension. Explore the real physiological and neurological effects of slow, mindful touch.

A massage is not limited to “relaxing.”
It triggers a series of deep physiological responses.

1. Your nervous system changes state

Most adults live in sympathetic mode (stress, alertness, performance).
Massage activates the parasympathetic system:

  • slower heart rate
  • deeper breathing
  • reduced cortisol
  • increased serotonin

It’s a measurable biological shift.

2. Your tissues rehydrate

Fascia (connective tissues) stiffens with stress and sedentary habits.
Slow, deep touch:

  • improves blood circulation
  • stimulates lymphatic flow
  • restores tissue mobility

Result: less stiffness, more fluidity.

3. Your brain senses safety

Stable, mindful touch sends a clear message to the brain:
“You are safe.”

When the brain feels safe, the body can release.

This is why a well-executed massage can sometimes trigger:

  • emotions
  • tears
  • deep relaxation

It’s not mystical. It’s neurological.

At CYMBAS, massage is not a mechanical protocol.
It’s a precise interaction between the nervous system, tissue, and consciousness.

Léonie

Massage Therapist & Holistic Bodywork Specialist

Léonie is a certified massage therapist (CAP, Beauty Diploma, CQP Massage) with over 13 years of experience in professional wellness and bodywork.

She built her career in luxury spas where she worked as a spa therapist and later as a manager, supporting large teams of practitioners while contributing to the development of high-quality treatment protocols.

Through this experience, she developed a holistic vision of well-being — one that is both human, sensory, and deeply respectful of the body.

For the past six years, Léonie has been working independently, focusing on what matters most to her: offering intuitive, personalized, and deeply tailored massages.

An intuitive and conscious approach

Each massage session is unique, created through attentive listening to the body, breathing patterns, and the physical or emotional tensions present in the moment.

There is no rigid protocol — every treatment adapts fully to the person, their energy, and their needs that day.

Her work is especially beneficial for:

  • people seeking deep relaxation and stress release
  • tired or physically demanding bodies (sport, work, muscle recovery)
  • those wishing to reconnect with themselves.

Teaching and sharing knowledge

Passionate about the evolution of massage practices, Léonie now also shares her expertise through massage training, particularly focused on intuitive and personalized bodywork.

Her mission is to:

  • elevate the quality of therapeutic touch
  • bring deeper meaning back into massage care
  • promote a respectful, conscious, and sustainable approach to bodywork.

A practitioner between two worlds

Franco-Swiss, Léonie now divides her time between Tarifa in Andalusia and Cruseilles near Annecy in France, where she returns several times a year to offer treatments and training sessions.

This dual environment enriches her practice — between the vibrant energy of southern Spain and the peaceful nature of the Alps.

In both places, she works with the same dedication to presence, attention, and quality of care.

Her philosophy

For Léonie, massage is far more than a treatment.

It is a space for presence, breathing, and transformation.

A moment to slow down, release tension, and reconnect with yourself.
